Oklahoma City Area Inter-Tribal Health Board Epidemiology Center:
Tribal Epidemiology Center Consortium

The TECC grant is collaboration between three epi centers. The lead agency is the Northwest Tribal Epidemiology Center (NTEC) that serves the tribes of Idaho, Oregon and Washington. The two consortium partners are the Southern Plains Inter-Tribal Epidemiology Center (SPIEC) that serves the tribes of Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, and the California Tribal Epidemiology Collaborative (CTEC).   TECC’s goal is to share the tools and experience of existing and prior projects and interventions in Indian Country to increase the cultural competence, effectiveness, data quality in all three regional areas.  In 2007 TECC developed and analyzed a needs assessment survey that determined the levels of injury prevention are low in all three areas.  TECC then developed an Injury Prevention Toolkit to increase the awareness. The Injury Prevention in Indian Country tool kit is the first Native-specific injury tool kit and was designed to have nationwide appeal, rather than being developed for a specific tribe or region. Tribes can tailor their kit to be geared to their own community by adapting the files and adding in local data. As of now, the Oklahoma Area has distributed 59 toolkits with every tribe we serve getting at least one.  We are now in the process of evaluating the toolkit for effectiveness for the future.
